Everyone has a purposeâyes, even you. But having purpose isnât the same as living on-purpose.
Itâs like owning a guitar or ukulele and never tuning it, never strumming a chord, never learning a song. The potential is there, but itâs not being used with intention. Purpose is the seed. Objective is the soil, the sunlight, the water. Purpose without an objective is like a song never played.
đž Purpose + Objective = On-Purpose
In our guitar and ukulele lessons, I often ask students: âWhat do you want to be able to do with this instrument?â
If their answer is âJust learn,â I push them to dig deeper. Do you want to play for your family? Perform at an open mic? Write songs? Lead worship? The clearer the objective, the more focused your practiceâand the more motivated you become.
Learning becomes on-purpose when thereâs a mission behind the music.
đ§ Why Being On-Purpose Matters
Hereâs why shifting from just having purpose to being on-purpose changes everything:
- đŻ Focus: You stop wasting time on things that donât align with your goal.
- đ Consistency: You practice regularly because you know why youâre practicing.
- đ„ Momentum: You see progress, and that progress fuels your passion.
đ„ Take Action This Week
If youâre learning guitar or ukulele, or even thinking about it, ask yourself:
- Whatâs my objective?
- What would âsuccessâ look like for me musically?
- Whatâs one small step I can take this week to live that purpose on-purpose?
Maybe itâs booking your first lesson. Maybe itâs learning a new chord. Maybe itâs finally recording yourself playing.
Whatever it isâdo it. Be on purpose. Live on-purpose.
