Everyone has a purpose—yes, even you. But having purpose isn’t the same as living on-purpose.
It’s like owning a guitar or ukulele and never tuning it, never strumming a chord, never learning a song. The potential is there, but it’s not being used with intention. Purpose is the seed. Objective is the soil, the sunlight, the water. Purpose without an objective is like a song never played.
🎸 Purpose + Objective = On-Purpose
In our guitar and ukulele lessons, I often ask students: “What do you want to be able to do with this instrument?”
If their answer is “Just learn,” I push them to dig deeper. Do you want to play for your family? Perform at an open mic? Write songs? Lead worship? The clearer the objective, the more focused your practice—and the more motivated you become.
Learning becomes on-purpose when there’s a mission behind the music.
🧠 Why Being On-Purpose Matters
Here’s why shifting from just having purpose to being on-purpose changes everything:
- 🎯 Focus: You stop wasting time on things that don’t align with your goal.
- 🔁 Consistency: You practice regularly because you know why you’re practicing.
- 💥 Momentum: You see progress, and that progress fuels your passion.
🔥 Take Action This Week
If you’re learning guitar or ukulele, or even thinking about it, ask yourself:
- What’s my objective?
- What would “success” look like for me musically?
- What’s one small step I can take this week to live that purpose on-purpose?
Maybe it’s booking your first lesson. Maybe it’s learning a new chord. Maybe it’s finally recording yourself playing.
Whatever it is—do it. Be on purpose. Live on-purpose.
